another thank you note to all

Dear friends,

The typhoon has changed course, heading for Manila for some reason. D is in Legaspi City. So he is safe and weather is clearing up.

Thank you all for your prayers and wishes. We will continue hoping and praying for the big bad typhoon to keep off our seas and coasts where people live, Philippine, Vietnam, Hongkong, or China.

Best wishes,

Andie

Looking Back 5 Times

I was tagged by LB for the very first time last week. I spent days to complete the task. I know, I need to work faster next time.

*** INSTRUCTIONS: ***
1. Post 5 links to 5 of your previously written posts. The posts have to relate to the 5 key words given below.
2. Tag 5 other friends to do this meme. Try to tag at least 2 new acquaintances (if not, your current blog buddies will do) so that you get to know them each a little bit better.
3. Don’t forget to read the archived post and leave comments.
************************

Link 1 is a little bit of FAMILY: Our Little Family
Link 2 is a little bit of FRIEND: Friends : Now and Then
Link 3 is a little bit of YOURSELF: I have a successful day if ..
Link 4 should be YOUR LOVE: for the love of wasp !
Link 5 can be ANYTHING YOU LIKE : Dear Wives, Please Read This

Sometimes I do forget that family is the most important thing in the world, not clothes, handbags, cars and material stuff like that. I guess people are growing more and more attached to their worldly posessions. Let’s start looking back, people!

This blog was started as a general blog, even tried to make it anonymous (silly huh), which is why it is quite hard to complete this tag from LB. But, I am proud I finally finish it. Yay! This is a new experience.

I think I am passing this to :

m o m i s o d e s, the new friend – the pretty mom – Take five to look back 5 times

s w e e t i s u, the new friend – the strong mom

h a p p y s u r f e r, more new friend – the KL lady

l o t u s c a r r o l, another new friend – the sarcastic mom – “Approximately a Shitload” of Memes

b l e e d i n g e s p r e s s o, another new friend – the great blogger – 5 post meme (nothing like a one-trick pony)

PS. All my blog buddies are new friends ..

friends: now and then

I don’t have that many friends. I know a lot of people, but nobody I can actually refer to as good friends. But there is a group of friends that I have been good friends with since 1995. Yeah, it is one of those archaic period of time, before internet and all (at least for us). We hung out together a couple of times a week, till later some started to fall out of the group and some stay, some moved out of the city.

Last Thursday two of the gals came back to town and we had a little get-together.

We are not the fun-type party-hopping friends, in fact, we don’t have anything in common, but we are great friends. We have been through ups and downs of life, breakups, marriages, babies and all. We don’t meet that often anymore, but friends are forever, when you keep them close in the heart.

Andie and Friends – November 2007

Judge of Character : Indian Way

I went out to lunch with my staff from work today. Since most of them asked for vegetarian food, I offered to go to a famous Indian restaurant which I have never been. I thought it would be a good experience for everybody, because I know they have never been to any real Indian food, let alone Indian restaurants. I have always loved Indian restaurants, they display lots of trinkets and stuff on the wall and the tables, even the ceilings are full of artistic display of Indian crafts! Love it!

The moment we walked into the restaurant, burst of spices smell hit us right on the nose. Yumm .. I was thinking. When I looked at them, they had strange look on their face. Then, when they heard the music playing, they stared at each other, trying to stifle a laugh.

I started to order quickly, trying to pick the most “neutral” dish I could find on the menu. They were so uncomfortable with the place, they made me uneasy as well. When the food came, they actually squinted on the smell. The whole lunch was a disaster, I had to finish everything because they just took a bite of everything and then stopped, claiming they had enough.

I can’t blame them, they have not been exposed to other culture than ours. That makes them very susceptible to culture shock. But what’s life without a little adventure? Nevertheless, I know who NOT to ask when I am craving for Mongolian-style roast lamb!

That experience makes me feel very thankful for my parents and husband. My parents took us travelling to other countries since we were very young. My husband shows me his western way of thinking. They made me who I am today.

Best Friends Forever?

friends-forever.jpg

i am extremely bad in keeping in touch with friends. i guess that is the reason that now i am 30 year old, married and friendless.

keeping friends require continuous efforts. i have made a list of action to be done if i want to improve myself in this area.

  • send text messages (at least once a week), just to say hello and ask how she is doing. it would be nice to hear from me (i think)
  • remember her birthday (i have missed all of my friends’ birthdays) maybe by keeping online calender / reminder. now i am using facebook to keep track of the special days
  • keep opinion to myself – it would be awful to say something critical in nature to friends whom i haven’t met in months, like how much she has gained or older she looks, or bad haircut
  • be there through tough times and act supportive. something like break-ups, loss of job, difficult projects, family feud. throw a listening ear and go back to the previous point
  • speak less about myself (LOL – that would be a bit tough, but doable) when we actually meet

yup .. those are things that i should have done. i hope that would improve my odds

anybody else wants to be my friend? i am a terrible friend, but self inspecting. so give me a chance.

Comfort Friend

picture-036.jpg

I had this stuffed teddy bear since college. It was my friend through the tough times studying away from home. It was hard times, different culture, different language, different country. It is silly to think that Coco (my bear) actually helped, but he was something familiar and comfy sleeping buddy in cold nights.

I think everybody has a comfort item. It can be pillow ( I know a lot of people who have that – I actually met one guy with old-battered looking pillow in his suitcase once, claimed he couldn’t sleep without it), a book, blanket. It is interesting to share a security comfort item with friends. It’s funny to laugh about it too. What a wierdo!
