Nasty Politicians Here and There

Today’s news headlines in local newspaper. Our local Mayor got arrested and now in detention for corruption charges. He was convicted on contributing to the losses of the local government fund in variety of state projects, like the purchase of fire trucks and other cases involving the misuse of the City’s Budget Fund, which can be summed up to 2,7 millon USD being “misplaced”. That is how much he caused the state to lose in the period of four years. He has been in power since 2002 and a lot of strange things were happening since. He sold off the state-run zoo and moved it to God knows where, sold off the state recreation center where now the Carrefour is proudly located. He sold approximately 19 government-owned strategically located assets to investors for a fraction of what they were worth.

Then the headline of Malaysian Health Minister’s sex tape scandal was posted right next to the first scandal. Mr Chua Soi Lek admitted he and a lady friend were were the couple seen in the secretly-taped sex video and that she was a “personal friend”. He apologized to his wife, children and supporters. At least he admitted and finally decided to step down from his position. I don’t know much about him, but he seemed to have great approval ratings on the good job he had done since in office.

Certainly not a good week for politicians. And all those happened in the second day of the year!

Misery DOES love company! 🙂

I do agree: if proved to be guilty of corruption, the mayor is a real nasty politician. Or rather a big time criminal. Shocking, but the good news is that he will be tried.

The adulterous health minister however is probably a mere hypocrite and a lousy husband. It’s about time his wife kicks his ass. But since his behavior has next to no influence on his record as a politician, it should only be a matter between her and him, don’t you agree?

I just read the news that his wife stands by him. Oh dear.. I salute those women.

Remember about sex tape of our (Indonesia) DPR member (I forgot his name)? His wife forgive him 🙂

Public figures do have to watch their steps a lot more carefully than the ordinary Joe in the streets..

I’ve got to agree with some of the comments above, what the nasty mayor allegedly did was MUCH worse than the sex scandal. While it’s definitely in bad taste to make an adulterous sex tape, it doesn’t change the man’s policies or outlook or even his capabilities at performing his job correctly. 🙂

If all of that happened on the second day of the year, imagine how bad they’re going to be by the end of the week! LOL.

    Giddy Tiger,

Really sorry, I wasn’t paying attention at all! It’s now fixed. 🙂

    Cheerfulday,

It must be a major headline there I bet. I am sure it’s a lapse of judgement on his side. But bad deeds come with bad publicity, and he plus family will have to power through it.

    Dear Colson,

Right on the first mayor. I hardly see that as a surprise. The day we get an honest mayor or governor, that’s a big surprise.

The minister got in trouble maybe because people see it not something a minister of a country like Malaysia should be doing in hotel rooms. Maybe he should be a role model. Public figures do belong to public in a way.

    Ecky,

Wives don’t have a choice sometimes. I wonder what I would do if I were in their shoes …

    LB,

That’s right. Maybe they think they can get away with it? The Mayor certainly thought so!

    Dear Judith

Nobody here likes the Mayor, especially business people. He is so corrupt. Maybe that’s why he got elected in the first place. Let’s see whether he gets away at the end. They normally do.

The minister claimed that he did not make the tape. It was secretly filmed.

We are all waiting excitedly to see what happened at the end.

    Sandy,

LOL. But I have been posting 3 days in a row … That’s a great start for me!! 😛
